Looking for a filler for your advent calendar? Look no further than creating your own grateful advent calendar to keep the reason for the season at the heart of your home during the Holiday season!
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances;
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
The Reason
This year I wanted to create something that kept our eyes on a greater purpose for the season. I love the all the fun activites and traditions that Christmas brings, but it can get overwhelming and all consuming quickly. This year instead of doing an activity advent calendar we decided to do a “grateful” calendar where we came up each day with something we are grateful for. We either picked something that we are overall grateful for or something that stood out to us that particular day.
Picking something each day that we are grateful for really sent our intentions on what we already have instead of being consumed with what to get. We noticed it shifted our conversations to really intentional ones and the attitude of our home! This is something we will definitely continue to do once our future kids are older.
The Calendar
The Calendar itself is not DIY and was from Target! I linked a similar one from Kohls as the very bottom of this post. I love this advent calendar because it is neutral and festive. For the “day of” marker I used olive branches with red berries that I got from Hobby lobby. I decided to put this up above our breakfast nook which was the perfect spot.
DIY Grateful Cards
For the cards themselves I grabbed some brown paper cards from Target and a calligraphy pen. I cut the card in strips to fit the pockets on the advent card and then wrote each day on it with the calligraphy pen. I love the soft look of brown paper against the cream white of the calendar as it made for a pretty sight to look at as well as a heartfelt intention.

We are so thankful we did this and I hope this can spark some inspiration to look for ways to set the intention of the hearts of your home to the joy of contentment. I pray each and every one of you have a beautiful Holiday weekend!
Merry Christmas,
Cherise
